Objectives

  1. To establish the first research laboratory with Drosophila fragile X model in Serbia and the region and to organize a multidisciplinary team in this field in Serbia with international connections.
  2. To research the effects of selected polyphenols to behaviour (circadian rhythm, grooming, climbing and social interaction) in Drosophila fragile X model.
  3. To research the effects of selected polyphenols to olfactory learning and memory in Drosophila fragile X model.
  4. To research the involvement of matrix metalloproteinases 1 and 2 (dMmp1 and dMmp2) in the effects of selected polyphenols in Drosophila fragile X model.
  5. To increase awareness in scientific and medical professional communities of importance of research on FXS.

New multidisciplinary team in Serbia with international connection

Team members:

  1. Complementary expertise in pharmacology, psychology, psychiatry, chemistry, FXS and FX-related disorders combined with
  2. Different stages of scientific career (experienced and early stage researchers) and
  3. Supported with well-grounded international cooperation.

Hypothesis

Selected polyphenols could improve behaviour, olfactory learning and memory by dMmp1 and dMmp2 blocking in Drosophila fragile X model.
